Setting up a garden to grow food, herbs and flowers requires knowledge, confidence and time; if you feel your school or community group could benefit from more of any of these, or most commonly, all three, then we can help.

We work with you to tailor a programme of workshops, community days, and hands on training sessions to suit you, the space you have available and the aims of your project. Some of the topics we cover are :

What to grow when.

The Magic of Soil

What is Compost For?

Setting up and maintaining a wormery

Foodgrowing all year round

Flowers for Butterflies & Bees

Poison-Free Pest Control

Saving Seeds

Making new plants from Old

Making Money from the Garden

Case Study : Outlook Care, Waltham Forest

This care home was looking to build on a garden project initiated as part of Capital Growth 2012 : they wanted to increase the areas of food growing without increasing their maintenance too much. The severely disabled residents were sometimes unable to use the south facing back garden in summer because of lack of shade, while their front garden was dominated by a badly designed bin store. We helped the staff get funding from Awards for All, and designed a programme of training to increase their confidence in using their outside spaces. We helped them make contact with their local residents' group, who are keen gardeners, and designed a front garden to delight both pollinating insects and humans. In the back garden, we planted a forest garden with fruit and edible ground covers, and put in systems for making compost and collecting rainwater to reduce their carbon footprint.
