As landscape architects, we specialise in community spaces : parks, playgrounds, city squares and nursery gardens : all places which depend for their long term success on the involvement of their local communities. Good design is important, and designing meaningful community involvement into projects is integral to its sustainability.

To achieve this for our projects, we plan, organise and lead community work and learning days, recruit and manage regular volunteer sessions, and help project partners to enable their staff and service users to participate fully in shaping their project.

Case Study : Jubilee Primary School, Hackney

The school approached us to help them investigate the possibilities for replacing playground equipment which was no longer safe for children to use. They asked for proposals based on maximising opportunities for natural play, with areas for digging, hunting for minibeasts, making music, quiet play, running and climbing, and shelter for wet days. We offered them a design for fundraising that would include the local community, offer potential for developing skills, and provide space for enjoying nature.
